Evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The product my partner and I produced used conventions of existing music videos by having an easy to follow narrative combined with shots of the 'band' performing parts of the song. However we did challenge conventions by using a non-linear narrative, we started at the end and developed from there through flashbacks. Also, by using predominantly dark imagery and setting we ensured that the video produced was as close to videos of the same genre we had seen as possible, with the dark imagery being associated with sadness which is a common emotion to feel during a breakup.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The combination of our main product and our ancillary texts was, I think, very effective. This is because they all reflected each other with use of bold, dark images, and because they all interlinked into the stereotypes of the band that would play that style of music.

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Our audience feedback has been, for the most part, quite positive. Due to the fact that the vast majority of people who we have shown our video to listen to the style of music portrayed they were able to pick up and compliment us on the codes and conventions we portrayed.

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout the whole of media production we have used a wide range of technologies. Throughout the research and planning stage we mainly used different online softwares, such as emaze to create interesting powerpoints, storyboard creators, script templates and various images found online.
Throughout the construction we used a Canon 60D to film our video and power director to edit it. For the ancillary tasks we used Adobe PhotoShop to edit and manipulate images and Serif Page Plus to piece our products together.
